On moving to Australia with her young family from Fiji 3 years ago, Luisa studied for a Cert-IV in Disability & Aged Support. After not feeling well and a visit to her GP she was diagnosed with advanced breast cancer and began treatment at Sydney’s St George Hospital.
During this time and the COVID-19 lockdown, her family faced a number of stressful financial and residency issues. CanCare’s volunteers were constant companions, helping connect Luisa to other services, organising paperwork for family bridging visas and were “a friendly ear to share my experiences”.
Her advice to others? “Always have thorough check-ups, try not to stress, remain with a cheerful heart, and reach out for support where-ever you can”.
